Cleaning Up the Chesapeake Bay
We supported the Chesapeake Bay Restoration Fund, which environmental groups have called the most significant environmental legislation enacted in a generation.  Already, CBRF funds are helping reduce nitrogen from sewage treatment plants, the leading cause of Bay pollution.

Enhancing Access to Healthcare
We have supported meaningful medical malpractice reform and have opposed the new tax on HMOs.  We support efforts to make health care more accessible and affordable, and to provide consumers with more choices.  We're working to help our seniors to pay for prescriptions while encouraging independent living.

Improving Maryland's Economy
Maryland's economy is getting stronger, and under Governor Ehrlich's leadership, our tax dollars are being spent wisely.  Through our collective efforts, Maryland maintains its coveted AAA bond rating, we have turned a $2 billion deficit into a significant surplus, and more than 100,000 jobs have been created in the last 3 years.  Our unemployment rate is 3.4%, the lowest level since 2000.

Creating Educational Opportunities
We have strongly supported full funding of the landmark Bridge to Education Excellence Act, which has increased funding to historically high levels for K-12 education; we have also supported out teachers by voting for this year's bill to improve their pensions; and we worked hard to secure $326 million in school construction funds, the highest level in Maryland.  We strongly support efforts to make schools more accountable, especially the Baltimore City public schools.
