Dear Supporters,
The campaign continues to roll along.  Four weeks from today is the primary.   We're beginning to focus on lining up volunteers for all our precincts thoughout the 42nd district.  If you can help us out for a few hours on Tuesday, September 14th, please call me on my cell, 410-440-3581.

We continue to collect important endorsementsThe National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) endorsed me this past week, saying, "We believe that you are the best choice to represent the views of the men and women who own, operate and work in Maryland small business."

I was also endorsed by the Maryland Farm Bureau PAC.  In their endorsement letter, they thank me for my support of the farm families of Maryland.  It is gratifying to earn the support of these two fine organizations which have done so much to improve the quality of life in our state.

Our large campaign signs have arrived!  In fact, they were delivered yesterday.  We've assembled quite a few in Delegate Aumann's garage, (thank you Sue!) and the first ones have been installed along York Road...and not a minute too soon.  Many of our smaller lawn signs have have planted -- about 300 so far, and growing every day.

This past weekend, I knocked on many more doors, introduced my friend Del. John Cluster at his picnic funsdraier, attended a great "movie night" in the Ridgeleigh neighborhood, attended a fundraising breakfast for Andy Harris in Cockeysville, and put up about 50 lawn signs. We'll be waving at traffic every morning this week, and knocking on doors every evening.  The weather is moderating somewhat, thank goodness.

Every Monday morning, we have a campaign strategy meeting at our house.  Yesterday, we were pleased to welcome Ken Holt, our candidate for County Executive, to our meeting.  Ken is running an energetic campaign which is really beginnning to gain some traction throughout the county.  As mentioned earlier, Mary Jeanne and I are hosting a "meet and greet" for Ken at our home on September.  Invitations go out this week.

Thanks for your support.  We'll touch base again next week.

Dear Supporters,

Just five weeks to go before Primary Election Day, Tuesday, September 14, 2010!  The campaign is truly in high gear, and I've got lots of positive news to share.

First, I received the formal endorsement of the 100+ member 42nd District Republican Club.  My teammates -- Kevin Carney, Susan Aumann, John Fiastro and David Marks -- were also endorsed.  The endorsements took place at a fabulous picnic held at the home of our club president, Julianne Grim, and there were more than 100 club members and guests in attendance.

Second, our lawn signs finally came in, and they look great!  We were so giddy that they finally arrived, that we immediately installed the first 140 or so within hours of delivery.  We have lots of additional folks who want a sign so we'll be working to get them installed over the next several days.

Third, our large 4x8 and 2x8 signs are due for delivery today.  We have a small army of folks who are ready to roll up their sleeves and put 'em up!

Fourth, I have received endorsements this past week from two very significant organizations:  the Maryland Right to Life Committee and the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.

Fifth, our campaign finance reports are due on August 17th, reflecting all activity through August 10, 2010.  I'm pleased to report that -- due to the generosity of hundreds of supporters -- we will report at least $50,000 cash on hand.  We have prepaid for most of our campaign materials through the primary, so we are in great financial shape.

At the same time, our campaign has been able to financially assist many other like-minded Republicans who share our pro-business, fiscally responsible agenda. We want to grow our party and elect men and women who share our limited government philosophy.

Sixth, we have new and improved team brochures coming in this week.  Way until you see them!  They're going to have a very positive impact.

The Towson Times will soon have a meeting to select endorsements for the primary election.  I'm hopeful that the editorial board will recognize my solid legislative and constituent work spanning eight years, and recommend that I be re-elected.  We'll keep you posted.

I attended the National Night Out in Towson last Tuesday.  Kudos to Janice Arcieri, Pat France, Judy Gregory and Karl Pfrommer for their tireless work in fighting cime in greater Towson.  Their efforts, combined with hundreds of other volunteers throughout the year, have really made Towson a safe place to live and work.

Door knocking and sign waving continue at a heightened pace, interrupted only by a weekend visit to Columbia, SC to take my daughter Kathleen back to the University of South Carolina for her senior year.  It's a 540 mile trip one way!  A long but happy weekend.  Still can't believe she's a senior already!

Finally, mark your calendar for 10/10/10 (how's that for a great date on the calndar!) for our 8th annual Oktoberfest.  Also, Mary Jeanne and I are hosting a "meet and greet" for Ken Holt, our County Executive candidate, at our house on Wednesday, September 1, 2010.  Details to follow soon.

Much more to tell you about, but I'll sign off for now. If you need a lawn sign, call me on 410-440-3581.

Thanks for your support!

Dear Constituents,

Just 47 days until the Primary Election on Tuesday, September 14th, and then another 49 days until the General Election on Tueday, November 2nd. With fewer than 100 total days remaining, the pace of the campaign is really picking up.

Door knocking and waving at traffic is a daily ritual. Every weekday morning I can be seen at one of the major intersections in the district along with one or more of my teammates or volunteers. We continue to receive very positive responses from motorists and pedestrians.

This past week, I knocked on doors in Lutherville, Towson and Pikesville. While door knocking this past Saturday, we collected 20 new lawn sign locations! Speaking of signs, they're coming soon. We have identified several hundred locations -- both residential and commercial -- that would like a sign. We're all anxious to have them delivered and installed. Once they're up, they will make an enormous impact.

(Last night) Tonight is the annual picnic of the 42nd District Republican Club at President Julianne Grim's house. We're apparently expecting close to 100 club members to attend. What a great club of grassroots activists! Tonight, the club issues its formal candidate endorsements for various offices. I'm hopeful of receiving one, and it would be a privilege to be endorsed by this influential group of GOP activists. If you're a member of the club, I ask for your support.

This Thursday, I'll be at the Towson Farmers Market, and on Friday, I will be at the weekly "Feet on the Street" celebration in Towson. These are always great places to meet new friends. And on Saturday, I plan to spend many, many hours knocking on doors once again.
We'll keep working hard. We'll drop you another line next week.

July 16, 2010

Dear Constituents,
We're continuing to make progress with our door knocking, sign waving and fundraising.  Despite the continuing hot weather, we knocked on doors in Pikesville, Rodgers Forge and Lutherville over the past week.  The voters are expressing concerns about the state budget, the economy, and especially, JOBS!

As the Governor's race begins to take shape, it's clear that the economy and jobs will be the focus.  The same is true for races for the General Assembly, including the 42nd District.  Pocketbook issues like taxes and spending, jobs and the economy are dominating the headlines. We've been repeatedly stressing that the best thing government can do to spur job creation is to make Maryland more business-friendly by cutting taxes, enacting reasonable and predictable regulations, and creating an environment that allows the private sector to create wealth and jobs.  Government should not stifle small businesses -- and larger ones too -- with onerous regulations and stifling bureaucracy.  I still believe in the magic of the market to create and sustain wealth and good-paying jobs, and I believe most Marylanders believe that, too.

We've been waving at traffic most weekday mornings.  Over the past week, you might have seen us at Charles Street and Towsontown Blvd, Greenspring Avenue and Old Court Road, or Dulaney Valley Road and Fairmount Avenue.  We're getting lots of waves and thumbs-up; the reaction is quite positive.

Our fundraising is right on track.  After paying for lots of bills recently, from signs to brochures, to our participation in the July 4th parade, we still have more than $50,000 cash on hand.  This is due to our many, many generous supporters who have always been there for me since 2002.  I truly appreciate your confidence in me.

Another task that is keping me busy is completing the requisite questionnaires from the various groups and lobbies.  Recent questionnaires have come in from the MD Farm Bureau, the MD Chamber of Commerce, the MD Catholic Conference, the League of Women Voters, MD Right to Life Committee, and many others.  Groups want to know where various candidates stands on issues important to them.

A highlight of the past week was attending the dedication of Towson's new Olympian Park on the Towson Circle.  It is a great little pocket-park amid the hustle and bustle of Towson, and the park pays tribute to the many Baltimore County Olympic athletes over the last several years, including Towson's own Michael Phelps.  Michael and his mom Debbie were both on hand for the dedication. We're very proud of all of our Olympians.

My family is heading to Bethany Beach on July 17th for the week.  I'm heading down too, but it's sometimes difficult to relax during an election year.  I'm planning to attend the annual Millard Tawes Crab Feast on Wed., July 21st in Crisfield, then head up to Carroll County that evening to introduce my good friend, Delegate Susan Krebs, at her annual fundraiser.  Then Thursday morning, I'll head back to the beach.

Next Saturday, the door knocking continues.  Let's hope the heat mitigates somewhat.  I truly enjoy meeting the voters, and learning what's on their mind.  Until next week, stay cool and enjoy the beautiful Maryland summer.

Finally, let me put a plug in for our local farmers.  We have three great Farmers Markets in our district:  Tuesdays from 3-6 pm at Kenilworth Mall, Wednesday afternoons at the MD State Fairgrounds, and Thursdays, 11 am - 3 pm on Alleghany Avenue in Towson. Please support our local farmers and stop by one of these fabulous markets in the coming weeks.
